Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is also Puteri Umno chief, says Tourism Malaysia offices overseas will strategise for the drop in ringgit in its promotion costs. – The Malaysian Insider pic, August 24, 2015.The Tourism and Culture Ministry is drawing up strategies and the mechanism to lessen the impact of the ringgit slump on its tourism promotion abroad.
Its deputy minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said her ministry had not been facing difficulties in maintaining the momentum of tourist arrivals into the country as it had fully prepared for any unexpected economic event.
"Undeniably, the ringgit slump may have a slight impact on our tourism promotion abroad but we have plans and strategies in facing the current economic situation.
"As the minister said, the ringgit slump would have a positive impact on tourist arrivals to the country," she said at a press conference before witnessing the Labuan Strongest Man Competition 2015, in Labuan yesterday.
Mas Ermieyati urged the people to remain united and be with the government in facing the current situation and not tarnish the good image of the country.
"We should be grateful for the peace in our country, enabling a continuous inflow of investors and visitors to the country.
"As such, there must be no efforts to threaten the country's stability, which can affect the business community as well as the tourism industry," she said.
On another note, she said the theme of this year's National Day celebration, "Sehati Sejiwa" (One Heart One Soul) must be instilled for Malaysians to be together with the government in maintaining stability and solidarity.
"I'm sure, we, as Malaysians don't want to see the country's image continue to be tarnished by certain quarters who have manipulated and misled on various issues, resulting in some investors to run away. What we are enjoying must be retained," Ermieyati said. – Bernama, August 24, 2015.
